INTERNATIONAL - This Saturday, Italy managed to win for the first time in its history against Australia. A 28-27 victory in Florence that will make history. A man embodies this transalpine revival: Ange Capuozzo. The Toulousian offered himself a double against the Wallabies, a few months after having crucified Wales...

Superlatives are starting to run out about Ange Capuozzo. We may be used to seeing him break ankles or turn opponents twice his weight, but the Stade toulousain player impresses outing after outing. Remember, in the midst of a stratospheric season with Grenoble in the second division, Capuozzo discovers the Squadra Azzurra with a desperate Italian team in the 6 Nations Tournament.

The fullback or winger put on the tunic of the transalpine selection for the first time againstScotland during the fourth day of the Tournament. A thunderous arrival on the international scene as he scored a brace in Rome and stood out despite the defeat. In a few minutes, the 21-year-old player became the darling of the Roman public. And that was only the beginning.

The following week, Ange Capuozzo was promoted to the starting line-up with the number 15 at the back. A game that will remain in the annals because after a game still exceptional, the new Italian jewel comes out of his box in the last seconds, leaving the whole Welsh defense to offer the try of victory to Edoardo Padovani. An action that marked the year 2022 but above all the history since the Italian won for the first time since 2015 in the Tournament.

Australia, his new victim

You have understood it, in a few minutes played, Capuozzo became THE player who represents Italy in the eyes of the world. So after having missed the first game of this autumn tour against Samoa, the Toulousian had in heart to pay the Wallabies, and it is what he did.

In Florence, the former Grenoble native once again led his team to a historic success. He did not take long to make his mark. A first try at the twenty-fifth minute and a second at the sixty-fourth minute to mark the spirits and still transform himself into a savior for the Italians who find the sun again after having spent (too) many seasons under dark clouds.

Thanks in part to the two tries of its back pocket, the Squadra Azzurra offers for the first time in its history and confirms its current good dispositions. It is worth noting that in six appearances, Capuozzo has a more than positive record of four wins and two defeats.
